Optical Fabrication & Polishing Technician I

Position Summary
Bond Optics is seeking an Optical Fabrication & Polishing Technician I to join our precision manufacturing team in Lebanon, NH. This is an entry-level to developing technician role for candidates who want to build a career in optical fabrication. With demonstrated skill and growth, this role can advance to Technician II.
This position supports the production of precision optical components through traditional optical fabrication methods including grinding, lapping, polishing, beveling/chamfering, cleaning, and inspection.
Essential Responsibilities
- Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and job travelers (manufacturing routing documents that define the process sequence for each part).
- Assist with setup and operation of optical fabrication equipment used for grinding, lapping, polishing, beveling/chamfering, and edge finishing.
- Perform basic part handling, cleaning, and preparation for processing and inspection of optical components made from various materials including optical glass, crystalline materials, and infrared materials.
- Support in-process dimensional and visual inspection using shop-floor tools including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
- Read and follow basic optical drawings/blueprints and job travelers (training provided).
- Maintain clean tools, machines, and work areas in accordance with safety and quality requirements.
- Accurately complete production logs, labels, and basic traceability documentation.
- Escalate process issues, quality concerns, or equipment abnormalities to supervisors or lead technicians.
- Support team goals for quality, throughput, and on-time delivery.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong manual dexterity and ability to handle delicate parts carefully.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Basic shop math skills including decimals, fractions, ratios, measurements, and unit conversions.
Preferred:
Any experience in manufacturing, machining, optics, precision assembly, or lab/shop work.
- Familiarity with micrometers, calipers, or basic inspection tools.
- Exposure to optical drawings, blueprints, or travelers.
- Familiarity with computers and basic data entry.

Physical / Work Environment
- Standing for extended periods; frequent hands-on bench and machine work.
- Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or manipulate delicate optical components and tooling.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for inspection work.
- Work is performed in a controlled manufacturing environment; noise level is generally moderate.
Compensation & Benefits
