Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is ideal for a hands-on, technically skilled manufacturing leader with deep experience in optical fabrication and metrology. You will be responsible for production execution, scheduling, problem solving, and team leadership in a high-mix, low-volume environment where precision and quality are non-negotiable.
Job Duties
- Lead Daily Operations: Oversee end-to-end production, scheduling, staffing, and execution, with a relentless focus on quality, delivery, and efficiency.
- Champion Optical Excellence: Ensure best-in-class workmanship in fabrication and metrology of custom glass optics used in aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and scientific applications.
- Develop & Motivate Teams: Cultivate a high-performance culture on the floor. Coach, mentor, and empower production supervisors, technicians, and operators.
- Improve Continuously: Implement and reinforce Lean practices to drive waste reduction, improve flow, and increase throughput, without sacrificing quality.
- Optimize Scheduling & Capacity: Build and maintain dynamic production plans that align with customer commitments and internal capabilities. Ensure resources are deployed strategically to hit critical deadlines.

- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with Quality, Engineering, Sales, and Supply Chain to align priorities and solve problems in real-time.
- Drive Change: Help modernize legacy processes and systems. Contribute to the development of scalable infrastructure as the company grows.
Job Requirements/Skills
- Deep Expertise in Optical Fabrication: You know what it takes to manufacture precision glass optics, lapping, grinding, polishing, cleaning, and inspection, and you’ve led teams that do it at the highest levels.
- Leadership Experience: 7+ years in a production or operations leadership role, with a proven track record of managing people and building successful teams in a technical manufacturing environment.
- Process Improvement Mindset: Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, you’ve used these tools to improve flow and eliminate bottlenecks and can implement them in a real-world optics shop.
- Strong Scheduling & Planning Skills: You’ve run complex production schedules and can balance priorities between urgent customer needs and long-term strategic goals.
- Quality Focus: Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100; you appreciate the rigor required to deliver consistent, inspection-ready optics.
- Hands-On Approach: You don’t just sit behind the desk—you walk the floor, talk to your people, and solve problems side-by-side with your team.
- Communication & Accountability: Clear, direct, and honest. You hold yourself and others to a high standard.
Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in high-mix, custom optics or other precision manufacturing environments.
